Willalooka

I arrived in Bordertown SA on saturday the 18.08. and was picked up by my little brother. He has been working on a station here for nearly 2 years and I am staying and working here the next 3 months.
We live 80km away from the next town and there is pretty much only sheep and cattle around.
Every saturday we go into town to go shopping and thats about it. The local pub is the place to go when youve had enough of the solitarity .

This week I have learnt to drive a quad and a ride on mower. The first few days I mowed a whole lot of gras and sprayed herbicides to remove weeds. On the third day I managed to break the mower, sprayer and hand mower... thats just me :-P but its all good.
The rest of the working week I had to pick up lots of sticks and stones so I could continue mowing, index all the chemicals and pressure clean some toilets. That was really dirty work.

On friday we head out to the pub for a few beers and some potato wedges with some new friends.
Well and today we went quad riding.. round up some sheep to make them run 4 paddocks over and had lots of fun cruising around.

Life in the country is a bit different. Dogs are not pets but just for working. Rabbits are pests and get poisend, bashed over the head as a weekend activity or shot with a shotgun.
And rubbish disposal .. well... non existent. The picture of the ute is me at the rubbish dump on the station. They just burn everything. You pretty much work from sun up to sun down. At the moment thats 10 hours with 1 hours lunch brake.
They have beatiful sun sets here and I love all the different parrotts and birds.

Bye bye gold coast hello winter

I have said goodbye to the gold coast. I had a great time in the sun and will miss my neace and sister in law. But it is also very expensive!

3 days ago I finished cleaning ollis house and filling up the car with the rest of his stuff that he needed in Melbourne.
Its amazing what will fit in a car when you think of it as a tetris game.

I started driving at 1pm using my phone as a radio as the cars stereo doesnt work.
First stop was Coffs Harbour. I arrived at 5pm. The hostel I chose was called Aussietell. It was cheap with $23 for a 4 bed. But it was SO loud. I went to bed at 9.30 and fell asleep at 11.30 .. woke up at 5 :-/
The next day I drove for 9 hours. Breaking my rule not to drive at dawn or dusk. But I had to get to Golbourn. I stepped out of the car and was freezing.
I found a dodgy motel for $70 the night.

Today I woke up at 6am and headed out for the last day of this very exhausting trip.
It started raining after about an hour. My car was packed to the top and the axles are broken so driving was already a bit nervwrecking. But strong winds and rainfall made everything even more grueling.

Well I made it after all. I left with flip flops and shorts and arrived in my winter gear and rain jacket. Yay.
Tonight I will have a nice beer with my big brother and sleep in a hostel and tomorrow a 7 hour bus drive to south australia.

Gold coast you are so sunny

Dennis left last week and I have been living in my brothers house, trying to sell his stuff as he moved to melbourne head over heals.
My days pretty mich consist of lying at the beach, shopping, cleaning, selling stuff, lying at the beach and lying at the pool for a change.
It's supposed to be the middle of winter here and while my brother isn't having alot of fun with 14 degrees and rain I have 22 degrees and blue skys every day. Tough winter to get through ;-)
Today I have an interview with the owner of a station in SA to get a job there for three months thanks to my little brother. Hopefully that works out. Untill then  I am ... lonely oh so lonely ... i have nobody... of my own uuuuhhhhhh ...
oh no wait... i do have someone here !!
BERT ! always trying to get into the picture
